Meet the Artist

Hi there friends!

I'm Olivia Gonzalez, and I’m an impasto artist from Jacksonville Florida.

Born in 1976, that makes me 50! Whoo hoo! What an exciting, wonderful, beautiful, confident, sexy, cool and creative age to be!

I’m a lifetime artist, have a husband, three beautiful ADULT children, a handful of grandbabies, an accidental houseful of cats and two soul puppies that hang out in the studio with me while I’m working on your paintings! :)

I love sunshine, nature, (hiking is my favorite!) cooking, reading, yoga, family adventures and mishaps, afternoon naps and high profile court cases.

I’m always covered in paint and I am obsessed with The Art Behind the Art- the tools, the thought process, the method and the mess!

I LOVE to sculpt and I love to paint, and I created a way to combine those two passions into beautiful, colorful, three dimensional works of art.

My sculptural impasto paintings are created on gallery deep canvas and are thick, (like cake frosting!) and created using a special base mix that I shape with paint knives and fingertips, while simultaneously layering heavy bodied acrylic paint. The result is a beautiful, textured sculpture on canvas that invites both look and touch.

I also paint impasto on various textured paper, and I am forever fascinated by how paper responds and reacts to paint, pressure and pigment.

My work is feminine forward, a bit nostalgic and inspired by the women in my life that helped shape me.

It is also a celebration of all women; our stories, our courage and strength, resilience, resistance, tenacity and rebellion, our faith, love, beauty and laughter.

It is filled with the fruits and flowers of my childhood-found in gardens, moments, memories and conversations, centerpieces and paintings-southern magnolia and citrus, hydrangea, gardenia, azalea, spiky birds of paradise, garden roses, sunflowers and peonies and then objects like old clocks, dainty gold watches or a strand of pearls, a tube of red lipstick, a specific shade of pantyhose or polish… stacks of books and old telephones… flowers and things that delighted me as a child, and still enchant me today.

A connection between now and then.
